Winter Vaccinations

The winter flu and COVID vaccination programme is now underway. If you're eligible for the flu and/or COVID vaccines, please make sure you take up the offer to protect yourself this winter.

Flu and COVID vaccines

Last winter, Scotland experienced very high levels of flu, with more than 6,500 adults becoming so ill that they were admitted to hospital.

If you’re eligible for the flu vaccine you will receive a letter, email or text with appointment details or information on how to book one. You can book or rearrange an appointment online at www.nhsinform.scot/flu or by calling 0800 030 8013.

To find out more about the flu vaccine and if you’re eligible, visit www.nhsinform.scot/flu

In addition to the flu vaccine, some people may also be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine this year. Eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine is based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). This guidance is reviewed every year so it’s important to check what vaccines you are eligible for this year.

For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine and to find out if you’re eligible, visit www.nhsinform.scot/wintervaccines

Drop-in Sessions

There are two drop-in vaccination sessions offering both flu and COVID vaccines to anyone who is eligible. So if you have missed your appointment, or even if you already have an appointment booked in one of our other clinics, you can come along to one of the following sessions if it's more convenient.

? Invergowrie Parish Church Hall - Thursday 23 October, 9.15am-4.30pm
? Millenium Hall car park, Birkhill - Wednesday 5 November October, 9am-4pm

Health and social care workers

All NHS Tayside staff are eligible for the free flu vaccine. It’s a simple and effective way to help protect yourself and those around you from the virus throughout winter.  Frontline social care workers and NHS independent contractors including GP, dental and optometry practices, and community pharmacists will also be offered the flu vaccine.

All staff are encouraged to take up the offer and book an appointment. You can either:
• Book online at www.nhsinform.scot/flu
• Call 0800 030 8013

To log in online you will need your unique username and password.  If you’ve forgotten them, watch this step-by-step guide on how to recover them.

You can choose a location that’s convenient for you whether that’s close to home, somewhere you visit regularly or near work. There are dedicated staff clinics taking place at hospitals across Tayside, or you can attend one of our community vaccination clinics. You can find out more information on Staffnet and in staff email bulletins.

COVID-19 vaccine eligibility

The COVID-19 vaccination is not being offered to frontline health and social care workers this year, in line with recommendations from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

As such, no COVID vaccines will be available at the dedicated staff flu clinics at Ninewells Hospital, PRI, Whitehills HCCC or Arbroath Infirmary.

If you are eligible for COVID vaccination due to a health condition, you will receive an appointment letter for one of the community vaccination centres, which can provide both flu and COVID vaccines.
