Hearing Aids - Ear Moulds and Repairs

Paediatric Audiology, Tayside issues different types and styles of hearing devices depending on your child's individual need.

The most common type of hearing aid worn by children are behind-the- ear (BTE) hearing aids. The BTE hearing aids are suitable for children of all ages and are fitted to very young babies to adults.

All hearings aids are fine tuned and adjusted according to a range of hearing difficulties.

The hearing aid is often attached to an ear mould which is specifically made to fit each child.

An ear mould is made of plastic or silicone. Loose fitting ear moulds may lead to the hearing aid producing feedback (sharp whistling sound). Babies and young children need their ear moulds to be replaced regularly as they grow. Older children don’t require new ear moulds as often but it is important that if they are not fitting well to let the department know.
We offer a choice of colours of ear moulds so your child can have fun choosing their own.

When your child starts wearing hearing aids it is important that you encourage them to wear their hearing aids regularly. If you or your child is requiring support please contact the department.
Regular follow up appointments will be arranged to carry out assessments to ensure the hearing aids are continuing to perform effectively.
If you have any concerns about your child’s hearing, hearing aids or ear moulds in between the arranged appointments, please contact us to discuss your concerns.
