Hospital Acquired Infection

HAI poses a major problem to all healthcare authorities worldwide. Various studies carried out by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 5% of all hospital admissions result in infections that patients acquire during their stay while receiving treatment for other conditions. The Procurement Department therefore plays a key role in the fight against HAI across Scotland. As such we strive to prevent the risk of cross-contamination and infection through the purchase and development of safe products.

Correspondingly measures are taken to reduce the risk of physical injury to both patients and staff. This includes the procurement of medical and other products which are easy to clean and move for manual handling safety.

How Procurement Fits In

The Procurement Team work actively with the Infection Control Team to review products and equipment to ensure they are compliant.
