Personal Profile
Julie represents the ward of Kirriemuir and Dean in Angus Council, and is one of the two COSLA-nominated non-executive directors of Public Health Scotland, appointed May 2020. She has extensive experience of strategic communications and partnership engagement in the NHS and local authorities, which includes organisational change, transformation, public and patient involvement, and holistic systems and services. As a councillor, she is the vice-chair of the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership and was chaired its Audit committee during her previous term. Julie represents Angus council on the board of Voluntary Action Angus and sits on the Angus Alcohol and Drugs Partnership and the Community Justice Partnership. She is passionate about gender justice, tackling violence against women and domestic abuse, equality and diversity, the Third Sector, community empowerment, remote and rural communities, mental health, dementia, suicide awareness, resilience and wellbeing, including a wellbeing economy.

Julie is also actively engaged in campaigns for land reform, climate change, the environment and biodiversity. As a former broadcaster, past chair of a regional alcohol support and counselling organisation, frontline worker in social inclusion, and employee health and wellbeing adviser, she has a rich campaign, operational and strategic background and is also currently a national committee member of Women for Independence.
