Every child learns and grows in their own way and at their own pace, and we know that parents having access to good information that can support your child can make all the difference.
On our resources page you will find a range of resources, created and delivered by our own CAMHS staff. All of our resources and online sessions cover common neurodevelopmental concerns and are full of information and strategies designed to help you navigate challenges and celebrate your child's strengths.
Be aware of things in your child's life that may be causing additions pressure or challenge and let them know you are listening. I you feel you need additional support, chat with your child's teacher.
A Neurodevelopmental Concern

You’ve been directed to this page because the concerns you have appear to relate to the possibility of your child having a neurodevelopmental difficulty.
As in other areas across Scotland and the UK, there has been a sharp increase in referrals for neurodevelopmental (ND) assessment and this has led to an extensive waiting list. As a result we have had to carefully consider how we safely prioritise patients to ensure we carry out the primary role of CAMHS, which is to assess and treat children and young people with significant and impairing mental health concerns. If your child does not have a co-existing mental health difficulty, we are unable to accept a referral for a neurodevelopmental assessment.
We appreciate this may cause you worry and upset, however we would recommend focusing on your child’s individual profile, strengths and challenges and gaining an understanding of their individual needs. This can most helpfully be done by the adults who know the child well and the resources below will support this process.
While a formal diagnosis can provide a clearer understanding of certain patterns of behaviour, it is important to know that it is not necessary in order to access many forms of support, including additional support within school.
In this section we explore different resource, training and support available.
