What happens at my child's first appointment?

You and your child will be invited to attend an Initial Referral Appointment, which generally last 1 hour.
At this appointment you will meet with a member of staff from CAMHS. The purpose of this meeting it to gather as much information as possible in order to decide what the best way forward is for your child. It is unlikely that the person you meet at this stage will be your child’s worker, though that can happen.
It’s helpful to prepare for this appointment and be clear about what you feel is important for the worker to know. Following this meeting it will be up to the worker to decide whether CAMHS is the right service or not and what the most appropriate way forward is. You will be advised of this quickly.
