Does my child need to have completed an assessment and have a formal diagnosis from CAMHS to get the help they need at school?

Not necessarily, however it’s difficult to offer a universal answer to this question and needs to be considered for each individual.
Our advice would always be to talk to staff at your child’s school first and your local education department. At CAMHS we work in partnership with education and other colleagues to help ensure that children’s needs are best understood and supported.
Advice and guidance can also be obtained, if needed, for free through the Scottish Child Law Centre.
Enquire are also a really good source of information about additional support for learning in Scotland.
