I've heard about Children's Rights and the UNCRC - but what does that actually mean?

In Scotland, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) became part of Scottish Law in 2024, meaning public services like CAMHS have a legal duty to respect and protect these rights in everything we do.
The UNCRC is an international agreement that protects everyone under 18. It ensures you are kept safe, healthy and that your voice is heard when decisions are being made about your life.
For CAMHS this means:
The Right to Health: You have the right to the best possible mental health care.
The Right to be Heard: Your views must be sought, listened to and taken seriously in your care and treatment with CAMHS.
Best Interests: Every decision we make must be based on what is best for you.
