How can I prepare or help my child prepare for an appointment with CAMHS?
When you first come to CAMHS you’ll meet with one of our clinicians. The most important thing for you to know before attending an appointment, is that whoever you see at CAMHS wants to help you. It’s their job to try to find out as much as they can about you, your life and what’s been happening so that they can think about where best, who best and what is the best to support you. It’s okay for you to ask questions too. Our staff are trained in adapting the session to support communication. Usually our appointments take place in clinic rooms, but sometimes if the room feels uncomfortable, we take young people for walks in our garden.
