Supporting Tayside Excellence Programme (STEP)

During the recent COVID-19 pandemic the level of interaction between care homes and health and care professionals working within NHS Tayside and Tayside’s three Health and Social Care Partnerships has increased in an effort to provide care home residents with the best possible care under extremely challenging circumstances.

A particular focus has been enhanced infection prevention and control support for care homes, but as relationships have developed, enhanced support for many other aspects of health and care has been made available.
Much has been learnt through this period about the most effective way to support care homes, as circumstances change the Supporting Tayside Excellence Programme (STEP) has been initiated to build on this experience. The programme aims to promote a whole systems approach to improving health and care for residents of adult care homes in Tayside. An overview describing how the STEP initiative works and the important role played by Supporting Tayside Excellence Programme Self-Assessment Tool (STEP Self-Assessment Tool).

The STEP Self-Assessment Tool allows every care home to reflect on its health and care support for residents and provide feedback on interaction with the health and care support system in Tayside. The STEP Self-Assessment Tool will be completed prior to an annual STEP Visit during which a small visit team will work with the care home management to develop a plan for suggested improvements within the home and across the broader health and care system.
