Bilingualism is an advantage to learning. There is a great deal of evidence that learning to speak and use more than one language benefits a child’s overall academic and intellectual progress.
Sometimes parents are concerned if their child does not know much English before they start school. However, as long as your child has a strong foundation in their mother tongue, then they should have no difficulty learning English once they start school.
Speech and language therapy strategies/advice sheets for children’s language development are available in a number of languages. Please discuss this with your Speech and language therapists if you would find these useful.
