Sustainable Clinical Care

Welcome to the Sustainable Clinical Workstream page where we will share with you just some of the projects being taken forward across NHS Tayside by clinical colleagues working together to reduce our CO2 equivalent emissions generated during patient care and delivery of our services.
The workstream has identified the following projects this year to progress in sub groups and if interested in joining in, or supporting any of these projects, please get in touch at tay.climatechange@nhs.scot

Gloves off
The paediatric service is working closely with the infection control team in order to provide enhanced training around appropriate use of PPE with a view to reducing single use plastic waste.
QR code information leaflet
The Emergency Department and paediatric service are working jointly on a project using QR codes to provide patient information in place of traditional paper patient information leaflets, thereby reducing waste at the same time as enhancing healthcare through digital means.
Near Me consultations
Near Me consultations are widely used throughout paediatrics. A piece of work is being carried out to identify opportunities for Near Me consultations out with paediatrics and supporting other services to expand the use of this service where safe and appropriate to do so.
Paediatric pill project
The paediatric service has been working closely with pharmacy to develop means of delivering ‘pill school’ in order to support the switch from liquid to tablet medication in children and young people where this is a safe and effective option. This project aims to reduce the waste and carbon emissions associated with liquid medication.
