Sustainable Property and Energy

Welcome to the Sustainable Property and Energy page where you can find out about all the work that has been progressed to date and is currently being taken forward to achieve our journey to Net Zero by 2040. The workstream is supported by teams from both Estates, Property, Capital Projects, Facilities, Finance and the Energy Officer and have already progressed a number of projects through a mix of internal and external funding received. These funds have helped the teams to reduce the emissions we generate through the energy consumption across Tayside.
Decarbonisation of 3 Primary Care Sites
NHS Tayside has successfully been awarded funding from Scottish Government to support the decarbonisation of 3 sites, one in each locality in Tayside. Abbey Health Centre in Arbroath, St Margarets at Auchterarder and Westgate Health Centre in Dundee will all be refurbished to include carbon saving initiatives to complete their decarbonisation by the end of March 2025. In addition to reducing NHS Tayside's emissions, these sites will provide the Board with a range of valuable learning to help support future decarbonisation projects across the remaining NHS estate. In line with the Boards Anchor ambitions, the local community in Tayside will also benefit from a Community Benefits clause embedded in this contract.
Energy Efficiency Campaigns
In addition to the physical amendments required to reduce energy use, NHS Tayside also provides regular updates to staff and visitors highlighting the importance of using energy efficiently and switching off PCs, lights, heating and equipment when not in use. This work will be further supported through the Green Champions in each area being exemplar energy savers!
LED Lighting Programme
NHS Tayside has successfully bid and rolled out a programme of LED light replacement across both hospital and office sites. Replacement of old lighting with new fittings is now undertaken as part of normal repairs and replacement programme to ensure any remaining lights are replaced with LED when repaired
Window and Door replacement programmes
NHS Estates teams ensure all replacement windows and doors provided meet the required thermal performance and air tightness to increase energy efficiency of premises when items are replaced.
