Clinical Governance

Expanded Scope of CG
Clinical governance is about accountability, structures and processes. It requires us to ensure alignment to strategy, leadership roles, responsibilities and activities and is underpinned by creating an environment which promotes openness, transparency, listening and learning in line with our organisational values.
By focusing on the three domains of Clinical Governance (safe, effective, person-centred care) alongside governance and leadership, training and education and performance monitoring we can create a culture and environment that fosters innovation, quality and improvement, system learning and we can demonstrate the high quality of care we provide. This will not only improve outcomes and experiences for our patients, and our staff, but contribute to our overall success and sustainability across the whole system.
Safe, Effective & Person-Centred

Clinical Governance Framework 2025

NHS Tayside’s vision is to enable people to live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. Our aim is to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care, across Tayside. To achieve this aim, this Clinical Governance Framework outlines how we provide, maintain and improve the quality of patient care through promoting and embedding a culture of learning, safety and excellence.

The purpose of this framework is to define underpinning principles that support effective clinical governance and to emphasise how all staff contribute to the quality of care for people who access services in Tayside.
