At the beginning

All children and young people who have a new diagnosis of diabetes enter our new patient pathway. The pathway that you will follow will depend on the type of diabetes that you have.
The first step on both pathways is to meet the team and learn about the basics of diabetes. We provide education in a flexible way and tailor content to meet your needs, whilst ensuring that you have the fundamentals to manage diabetes safely. The number of scheduled appointments varies depending on your diabetes type (see figure below). In addition, we would expect quite a few unscheduled calls and emails to provide you with the necessary support.

The pages below are designed to give you a brief introduction to diabetes following your initial diagnosis. These topics are explored in greater depth throughout the rest of the website.
