Most snacks contain carbohydrate and so will affect your blood sugar levels. Your dietitian will tell you how much carbohydrate you can have as a snack.
If you fancy a larger carbohydrate snack this is ok but it needs to be covered by taking an extra injection of novorapid. Your team will help to advise you on this. Some examples of snacks with carbohydrate are given below.
Snacks and drinks

Snacks

If you or your child is hungry there are some snacks that have very small amounts of carbohydrate and don't have much of an impact on blood glucose levels. Some examples of this are listed in the table below.

Drinks
It is important to check the label to make sure your drinks do not contain any carbohydrate. Any drink that does not contain carbohydrate can be had freely in the diet e.g. water/ sugar free diluting juice / diet fizzy drinks.
Milk is a great source of nutrition but it contains carbohydrate. If you are going to drink milk or fruit juice then these should be included as part of a meal with novorapid.

Sweeteners
If you add sugar to food or drinks you can switch to artificial sweeteners. You might find that you get used to the taste of foods without sugar.
In shops you will see “diabetic products”. These foods tend to have a laxative effect and should be avoided. Treats can be included as part of a healthy diet without including “diabetic products”.
