The philosophy of the YPU is that patients, where possible, have a normalised day time structure including attendance at education and activities. We promote recovery as much as possible.

Meet the team

The multidisciplinary team provide a variety of specialist assessments and interventions for the young people to help them in their recovery.
Nursing staff
  • The YPU Nursing staff provide a 24/7 service for the young people. The Nursing staff consist of Charge Nurses, Staff Nurses, Clinical Support Workers and Ward Assistants.
  • Liaison nurses based in each region; Tayside, Highland and Grampian (inc. Shetland and Orkney). Liaison Nurses are available  Monday- Friday.
  • Link Charge Nurse (Available Monday- Friday).  
  • Lead Nurse for North of Scotland. The lead nurse works with the Liaison Nurses, inpatient team and local teams to help ensure young people and their families/carers receive the best possible care.

Medical Staff

  • The medical team are made up of consultant psychiatrists, a Speciality Doctor and an FY1 Doctor in the YPU who are available Monday to Friday.

  • Occupational Therapists. 
  • Dietitian.
  • Physiotherapist.
  • Speech and Language Therapist. 
  • AHP Assistant Practitioners.
Education
  • At the YPU there are three teachers. The teachers can also arrange access to external tutors in specific subjects.
