Alcoholics Anonymous

At AA, alcoholics help each other.  It is free to attend meetings, it is up to you if you want to share or just listen.  When you attend a meeting you will be told about a starter pack that you take away with you offering support and guidance.

Al-Anon - Family Groups

Al-Anon is to support the people who are being affected by someone else's drinking.  When family life with a problem drinker is chaotic, an Al-Anon meeting provide a much needed safe haven in which to share experience, strength and hope.

Al-Anon - Alateen

Alateen meetings are for 12-17 year olds.  Young people are able to gain an understanding of the illness and the benefits of realising they are not alone.  They learn that they did not cause this problem and that they are not responsible for the person's drinking or behaviour.  Online meetings are available in Scotland using Zoom, see website for details and how to access.

Dundee Recovery Road Map

Dundee Recovery Road Map is a social platform that brings the Dundee community together. It provides signposting to useful local services for mental health support, food provision, addiction and recovery support, harm reduction, health and wellbeing, rehabilitation, peer support, as well as family and carer support.

Gamblers Anonymous

Gamblers Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women come together to share their experience, strength and hope with each other to recover from a gambling problem.  There are no fees to attend the meetings.  The website has more information about the meetings as well as online and audio resources.

Health Inclusion Nursing Team

This team offers community based holistic health and wellbeing checks and health consultations to those at higher risk of health inequalities e.g: those affected by substance use, homelessness, mental health and wellbeing issues, carers, offenders and prison leavers. The nurses offer person centred information, advice and support, as well as referral and/or signposting to other services and supports. They can also deliver stress management courses to support self-management of mental wellbeing. For those who need support to engage independently with other services or positive community-based activities, this can be offered by a Keep Well Associate Practitioner.

Narcotics Anonymous (Mutual Aid Meetings)

Online and face to face meetings available.  Meetings are where you can  find support from others who have been where you are now.  No appointment necessary, just find a meeting and go along.

Parish Nurses

The Parish Nursing initiative has been set up to provide whole-person health care for people who are experiencing homelessness, or are at risk of becoming homeless, life and health inequalities, substance use, and loneliness. The project operates a twice a week Drop-In, open to all, where people can access support for health concerns, support into recovery, Spiritual care, harm reduction advice and a listening ear. They also offer 1-1 support outwith the drop in, and support groups for anyone in recovery.

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs is a national charity which supports anyone affected by someone else’s alcohol/drug use in Scotland. We give information and support family members with confidence, communication, and general well-being, and we link them to our services and local support services. We also help people recognise and understand the importance of looking after themselves.

SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery promotes choice in recovery through a national network of mutual-aid meetings and online training programmes with comprehensive teaching materials and manuals. Tayside Council on Alcohol

They work with people, families and communities to mitigate the impact of substance use, gambling, offending and other risky or harmful behaviours.  If you are looking for support for yourself or someone else the following services are available in Dundee:
  • One to one counselling for anyone who is considering behaviour change with regards to alcohol, substances, gambling and anyone who is affected by another's use.  Counsellors will support you to set goals and make changes.
