Advocacy

Advocacy services can help people navigate their way through life’s ups and down. An independent advocate can help you build your confidence, empowering you to speak up in situations where you’d normally feel unable to, and will provide continued support until you feel you are able to so on your own.

Dundee Independent Advocacy Service

Offers people the opportunity to take control over their own lives by enabling them to exercise choice based on their own needs and wishes and to have their views heard and responded to.

Partners in Advocacy

Our Dundee Service offers independent advocacy across Dundee to children and young people who are aged 21 and under. Our Advocacy workers can help you work out what you want to say, support you and your rights and if you don’t feel able to speak for yourselves , we can speak up for you on your behalf.  We make sure your rights are upheld and that your views and wishes are fully listened to when decisions are being made.

Our Dundee service welcomes referrals for all children and young people who are unable to act for themselves, or have no independent person to act for them. Some of the issues that get priority are below:
• Learning disabilities
• Mental health issues
• Transition issues
• Isolation issues
• Communication issues or
• Issues as a result of being a young parent

They are also responsible for providing independent advocacy for all children and young people who have been detained in Dundee or who are at risk of being affected by the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003. That means we support young people in Dudhope or Carseview with navigating their rights and getting the right support.   We also support those who may not be able to instruct an advocate or who have been judged to lack the mental capacity to engage in a discussion relating to their wishes for the future. This is known as non-instructed advocacy.

We also support young people going through a children's hearing or who want support exercising their rights in education through the additional support for learning act.
