What is post menopausal bleeding?

Once your periods have stopped for a year, you are considered to be menopausal. Any unexpected bleeding after this is called Post Menopausal Bleeding (PMB).
Bleeding after the menopause is common and usually there is a simple cause for this such as vaginal dryness or a polyp, which is like a skin tag inside the uterus (womb). Bleeding should always be investigated. Although in the majority of cases there is nothing seriously wrong, it can be a sign of more serious diseases such as cancer (1 in 10 cases) which is often curable when found early.
