Effects of screen time on health

Screen time, whether it is phone, computer, tablet or TV, is a major part of our modern lives.  However, there have been growing concerns about the impact of screen time on our health.  Research has shown that children with higher screen time are more likely to:

  • Have a less healthy diet and be above the healthy weight range
  • Have more issues with low mood
  • Do less well at school
  • Have more issues with sleep
  • Be less fit and active

Unfortunately, there is no clear guidance on how much is too much and the amount that is right will probably vary from family to family.  Also, remember that there can be benefits from some screen time such as learning new skills and keeping in touch with friends and family.  Click on the links below for tips on making the most of screen time and limiting time online.
