What is malnutrition?

Malnutrition, or undernutrition, is a serious condition that happens when our diet does not contain enough of the nutrients that our body needs.  Signs of malnutrition include weight loss, feeling weak and taking longer to recover from illness.  Older people are at higher risk of malnutrition for a variety of reasons including decreased sense of taste and smell, restricted mobility and feelings of loneliness.  If you think you or someone you know is at risk of malnutrition, you can check using this simple tool.
