Weight loss medications
Unfortunately Tayside Adult Weight Management Service is unable to accept referrals for weight loss medications until there is approval to prescribe them in NHS Tayside. Thank you for your understanding as we work to bring new treatments for obesity to NHS Tayside. Here is an update on the current situation:
Saxenda® (liraglutide)
Due to a worldwide shortage, Saxenda® is not available at the moment. Unfortunately, we can't accept referrals for this medication as supply is no longer expected to resume.
Wegovy® (semaglutide) & Mounjaro® (tirzepatide)
These medications have been approved for use in NHS Scotland to support weight loss for health reasons. However, they haven't been added to the NHS Tayside prescribing list, so we can't accept referrals for them either.
Other weight loss drugs
Currently, there are no other medications specifically approved for weight loss in NHS Scotland. We will keep our webpage updated with the latest information as new drugs become approved and available.
