Tayside Adult Weight Management Service (TAWMS) is not currently a direct route for people who are seeking licensed weight loss medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as semaglutide) or GLP-1/GIP dual agonists (such as tirzepatide).
We cannot accept referrals where the main reason for referral is to access these medications. TAWMS does, however, provide a weight management programme for people who have already been prescribed these medications as part of their care.
NHS Tayside does not routinely prescribe these medications solely for weight loss, and they are not included in the NHS Tayside Formulary of Medicines. Access to these treatments is restricted and is based on national clinical guidance. To be considered for treatment, patients must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the NHS Scotland Consensus Statement on the Use of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Dual GIP/GLP-1 Receptor Agonists (2024). If you would like to discuss whether these medications may be appropriate for you, please discuss with your Doctor.
