How do I access pulmonary rehabilitation?

  • Access to pulmonary rehabilitation is via your GP.
  • If you are admitted to hospital with an exacerbation of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), you may be offered pulmonary rehabilitation on your discharge from the hospital.

What is involved in pulmonary rehabilitation?

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a programme of physical exercise and discussion and advice on lung health.  A physiotherapist will first assess you to make sure the exercise programme is tailored to your needs and ability.  The classes are organised in small groups and run over the course of a few weeks.  Afterwards, you should be in a better position to manage your own lung health.
