Parkinsons Disease

Physiotherapy can play a significant role in the management of Parkinsons Disease. Research suggests that taking part in exercise can significantly reduce the progression of the condition, improve balance, reduce falls, improve posture and mobility. The earlier you can get started post diagnosis, the greater the benefits become.

How can Physiotherapy help?

Our physiotherapy assessment will look at your balance, your coordination, the way you move, your strength and posture. This assessment can help to gauge the areas of weakness that you could work on, while also driving the benefits of consistent and regular exercise for physical health. Physiotherapy can also provide appropriate walking aids should they be required, and can assess falls prevention solutions in your home.

Our specialist Neurology service can also provide tips for managing a range of Parkinsons associated symptoms such as postural instability (balance), bradykinesia (slowness of movement), freezing and festinating gait.

Your Neurologist or Parkinsons Nurse will normally refer you into our service if it is required. If you have not been referred, and feel like you need us, please see the details on how to refer for your area.
