If you display movement symptoms such as issues with your balance, coordination or mobility, then your consultant may refer you to Neurology Physiotherapy. There is a range of treatment techniques and exercises we can do to work on these symptoms, while also helping with other factors such as walking aids and onward referrals.
Your physiotherapist will assess your movements, muscle power, balance and mobility to see if there is anything we can help with. Referrals normally come through a medical professional such as your consultant, GP or other professional, but you may also be able to self refer depending on your area. Please see our Neurology Physiotherapy page for advice on how to refer.

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

Functional Neurological Disorder, or FND, is a condition that can cause a variety of physical, sensory and cognitive symptoms which, depending on their severity, can have a significant impact on your quality of life.
It is caused by issues within your brain and nervous system that send the correct signals to your body. There isn't any physical damage on your brain or spinal cord, so it will not show up in any tests. There are a range of potential issues that can cause FND to develop such as mental health issues, trauma, stress or injury.
It might feel like you are the only person with this condition, as it is rarely spoken about, but FND is actually one of the most common neurological conditions seen by Neurology consultants.
