Dundee

Out Patients Service

You may be referred to the Physiotherapy department following a review by a respiratory consultant.  The Physiotherapists may see you along side the consultant, or may need to make a separate appointment to see you in person.  If you require a follow up appointment this may be by telephone.

You will be assessed and given a treatment plan based on your symptoms.  It is important that you can identify when your respiratory condition is changing, so that you can get the appropriate treatments as early as possible.  Your Physiotherapist will teach you how to recognise this, as well as some simple steps you can take to help yourself.

Transitions Service

Following an exacerbation of your respiratory condition, you may find you are less able to do activities than you were before.  The transitions service can help support you into pulmonary rehabilitation.

The Physiotherapist can review you for several sessions at home, helping you build up towards attending the pulmonary rehabilitation classes.  You will be started in a class with individuals who are in a similar position, and we would always ensure the exercises are suitable for how you feel at that time.
