Physiotherapy at home
If you are unable to attend an outpatient appointment because of your condition, or if assessment within your home environment is required, a physiotherapist may be able to visit you at home or in your care setting.
Community Physiotherapy with the Dundee Community Rehabilitation Team
The Dundee Community Rehabilitation Team provides physiotherapy to adults who require rehabilitation to improve their movement, mobility, function and independence.
We provide physiotherapy in a range of settings depending on your individual needs. This includes outpatient appointments at the Royal Victoria Hospital Outpatient Unit and The MacKinnon Centre in Broughty Ferry, as well as physiotherapy within your own home or care setting when this is required because of your condition.
Our aim is to help you improve your movement and function, maintain your independence and support you to manage as well as possible in your usual environment.

Community physiotherapy can support a wide range of conditions and difficulties, including:
- Reduced mobility.
- Difficulty walking.
- Reduced strength or balance.
- Falls.
- Recovery following illness or hospital admission.
- Recovery following surgery or injury.
- Long-term conditions affecting mobility or function.
- Difficulties managing everyday activities because of reduced mobility.
- Palliative and end-of-life care.
What Does Physiotherapy Involve?
Your physiotherapist will assess your individual needs and discuss what you would like to achieve.

- Strength and balance exercises.
- Exercise programmes.
- Walking and mobility practice.
- Assessment of your walking aid.
- Rehabilitation following illness or injury.
- Advice about managing your condition.
- Support to improve confidence and independence.
Your physiotherapist will work with you to develop an individualised treatment plan.
Do I Need A Home Visit?
Not everyone who uses the Community Rehabilitation Team requires a home visit.
If you are able to travel safely to an appointment, you may be offered an outpatient appointment at the Royal Victoria Hospital Outpatient Unit or The MacKinnon Centre.
Home visits are generally available for people who are unable to attend an outpatient appointment because of their condition, or where assessment and rehabilitation within the home environment is required.
