Managing Flare-Ups

It is common for pain to vary from day to day. A temporary increase in pain does not necessarily mean that you have caused further damage.

During A Flare Up, It May Help To:

  • Continue to move within your abilities.
  • Reduce activities temporarily if needed, rather than stopping completely.
  • Break tasks into smaller amounts.
  • Use pacing strategies.
  • Return gradually to your usual activities as symptoms settle.
  • Use relaxation or breathing techniques if stress is increasing your symptoms.
  • Continue with strategies that you know are helpful for you.

If your pain or symptoms change significantly, or you are concerned that something new is happening, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
