The Role of the Receptionist

The Receptionist in the image is surrounded by coloured, illuminated signs pointing in different directions to five specialists or services. Clockwise from left they are: Physio, Nurse, Pharmacist, Optometrist, Mental Health Support.below the Receptionist is another sign: the arrow pointing left is for the GP. There are two logos: the one to the left of the GP sign says NHS Scotland; the one to the right says Healthier Scotland and has the words Scottish Government underneath.
General Practice receptionists are also patient advisers. By asking a few simple questions, a GP receptionist can help identify which member of the practice team it would be best for you to see. There are a lot of different experts including pharmacists, physiotherapists, nurses, paramedics and social prescribers. The receptionist can help you find the right one for your healthcare needs.

Remember, when you contact your GP practice and the receptionist asks you questions, it's all confidential and is only to help you get the right care.

This short video explains the role of your GP practice receptionist.
