Sexual Health

Sexual Health & Blood Borne Viruses (BBV)
Sexual health and the relationships we have can affect individuals and communities. Whether we have no sex, lots of sex, many sexual partners or just one, our sexual health is important for our wellbeing.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines sexual health as a state of physical, emotional, mental and social wellbeing in relation to sexuality - it is not just the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity

Often, we avoid conversations about relationships and sexual health because we are embarrassed, but our relationships are one of the most important aspects of our lives.

Blood-borne viruses (BBVs) are carried in the blood and can be spread from one person to another. Those infected with a BBV may show little or no symptoms of serious disease, but other infected people may be severely ill.

Making sure that you get the right information from a trusted source is important. There is a lot of information online, some of it can be misleading.

Get Tested!
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can affect anyone.

STIs are passed on by vaginal, anal or oral sex without a condom or by genital skin contact. The best way to protect yourself and your partner(s) is to use a condom each time you have sex.

Not everyone who has a sexually transmitted infection has signs and/or symptoms. Sometimes these don’t appear for weeks or months and sometimes they go away, but you can still have the infection and pass it on to someone else.
