The Advice Centre operates a holistic and person-centred approach, recognising that financial stress, poor housing, and food insecurity are deeply interconnected with negative physical and mental health outcomes. Staff are trained to identify needs, and signpost and/or refer to appropriate services, ensuring individuals can thrive and no one is left behind.
Core Services Include:
1. Financial Wellbeing
- Support with debt management, benefit entitlements and money maximisation.
- Referrals to trusted services such as Money Advice Scotland, Citizens Advice Bureau, and Money Helper for impartial financial guidance.
- Early intervention advice to prevent financial crises and promote long-term stability.
2. Employability
- Signposting to local and national employability services.
- Collaboration with community organisations to improve access to training, digital skills, and job opportunities.
3. Fuel Poverty
- Referrals to Home Energy Scotland for free advice on energy efficiency, reducing bills, and accessing grants.
- Guidance on improving home warmth and sustainability.
4. Food Insecurity
- Direct support and referral to local foodbanks and sustainable food initiatives.
- Advocacy for access to nutritious food and to tackle hunger-related health issues.
