Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the most common cause of deaths globally and are the leading cause of the burden of disease. Physical inactivity has been identified as one of the leading causes of NCD’s, highlighting the importance of our role as professionals in promoting and enabling physical activity with the people we work with.
Physical activity plays a significant role in the prevention, intervention, recovery and management of many long-term conditions (LTCs). Because of the importance physical activity plays in supporting health and wellbeing across the population, the Directorate of Public Health are committed to supporting staff who work with local people to be confident in embedding physical activity into their practice. Free training around physical activity for health can be offered, to support staff to increase the use of physical activity as a key health improvement tool.
