Kidney transplant team
NHS Tayside Transplant Team is responsible for the assessment and follow up of all Renal Recipients and Living Kidney Donors who live within the NHS Tayside area. NHS Tayside is the fourth largest healthcare provider in Scotland and provides specialist care to around 450,000 people in Tayside and North-East Fife.
Our team comprises of 8 Renal Consultants and 3 Transplant Specialist Nurses. Every Recipient and Donor will be allocated their own Consultant and Specialist Nurse. Our Transplant Specialist Nurses are responsible for the coordination of the evaluation and preparation of kidney transplantation and donation. We offer assessment and follow up clinics in Angus, Dundee City and Perth. Your assessment and follow up will be completed locally.

Service Goals

  • Ensure that all patients likely to benefit from transplantation are offered the opportunity, and are supported in exploring all options for a living donor transplant to improve their equity of access and achieve the best treatment outcome for them.
  • Involve the patient and their family members or carers (as appropriate) in decision-making over the course of the assessment and educational pathways.
  • All patients and families are given relevant education and information to explore all modality choices.
  • All patients should have a documented decision about whether they are suita1ble for and wish to proceed with a living and/or deceased donor transplant.
  • All potential transplant candidates with an eGFR of 15-29 and are likely to progress to ESRF, are referred for transplant assessment and education in a timely manner.
  • Pre-emptive listing and transplantation for all potential transplant candidates.
