Up to two parents or carers can be present at any time of the day. We would encourage at least one parent or carer to be present during the morning ward round so that the doctors can talk to you directly about your child’s progress.
Our visiting hours are from 14.00pm - 19.00pm, this allows additional close family members to visit, including siblings.
Under normal circumstances child visitors are not permitted to visit children in HDU.

Safety
The door to the ward is always closed and a secure entry system is in place. Access can be obtained using the intercom system outside the door. All exit doors are secure with child safe release buttons.
Parent Facilities
A parent's lounge is available which includes tea and coffee making facilities, television and microwave. Tea, coffee, milk and sugar are provided free of charge. As this is a shared facility we would appreciate if you keep it clean and tidy. You can use this if you are visiting during the day or resident. Please note this is a child free zone.
Hot Drinks
We ask that hot drinks are only consumed within the parents lounge in order to prevent accidents and protect children in the ward.
Information Sharing
You may wish to discuss your child on the phone if you are not resident. Information about patients will be shared over the phone only with those who have parental responsibility.
Medication
To ensure patient safety at all times please hand over all medications to nursing staff for safe storage.
Infection Control / Hand Hygiene
Some of the children in the children's ward or HDU may become seriously ill if they get an infection. Please do not visit if you or any other visitors feel unwell in any way.
Please ensure you utilise hand hygiene facilities during your stay. In order to prevent the spread of infection it is often necessary to remain within your bedspace area and be mindful not to have physical contact with other children even if they are known to you.
