Gillian McMillan, Infant Nutrition Coordinator and Marianne White, Infant Feeding Advisor are keys links in relation to volunteering between the NHS, the Voluntary Sector and the public across NHS Tayside. The volunteer role currently available is:

  • Providing additional support to breastfeeding mothers in the postnatal ward area of Ninewells

This volunteering opportunity is welcomed by service users as it enhances the time available to support them in this setting. We know that women value and find this additional help of great value and it contributes to a positive experience with feeding. The health care professional team also find this makes a significant contribution to the overall time and support offered to new mothers.

This opportunity is open to all mothers who have breastfed themselves regardless of whether you are a new mother yourself or a grandmother. Specific training is provided relevant to this role. You will then be teamed up with existing volunteers and supported during the transition into this rewarding role. We also provide ongoing support to all of our volunteers at regular review meetings.

Please note that training for this opportunity is based on demand and is currently delivered ONCE per year, usually around the beginning of February.
