  • Roxburghe House
  • Macmillan Day Care Unit
  • Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation
  • Medicine for the Elderly
Volunteering within Royal Victoria Hospital can be a very rewarding experience. There are a variety of roles that volunteers can fulfil including activities, admin, complementary therapies (therapists must have a recognised qualification and valid insurance), community social support, gardening, driving, fundraising, hospitality, reception and ward/day care support.

Roxburghe House has a 24 bedded in-patient unit and provides care to patients and their families who are living with a life limiting illness.

Macmillan Day Care Unit provides care and support to patients who attend the service. There is a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team who provide palliative care tailored to suit the needs of the individual and their families. Volunteers play a vital role in supporting staff to provide a positive patient journey for the individual and their relatives.

Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation provides in-patient rehabilitation to adults aged 16-65 who have complex disability following a brain injury, and who will benefit from interdisciplinary rehabilitation before being discharged from hospital. Volunteers support the therapeutic work that is carried out by NHS Tayside staff.

Medicine for the Elderly provides in-patient rehabilitation to adults with a wide range of health care and support needs. Volunteers support the rehabilitation of patients by involving them in activities and spending time with them.

The majority of the roles do not require formal qualifications but rather a friendly, happy approach.

From as little as 2 hours a week, volunteering within Royal Victoria Hospital can improve your wellbeing, increase confidence, develop new skills and enhance existing ones.
