Newborn Hearing Screening Service

AABR Paediatric Audiology
The screening programme aims to identify all babies with a mild, moderate to profound bilateral deafness within a few weeks of birth and to improve outcomes for these babies through early effective audiology assessment and the provision of multidisciplinary family centred support and intervention.
The Hearing Screening Team is based in the Maternity Unit, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee and provides hearing screening seven days a week.

Additional clinics are held in the Community Maternity Units at Arbroath Infirmary and Perth Royal Infirmary.

All babies born in Tayside will be offered newborn hearing screening within 28 days of birth.

The hearing screen is a simple test done within the first few weeks of life; it may even be carried out before you leave the maternity unit.

If your baby’s hearing hasn’t been checked within four weeks of getting home from hospital, please contact Tayside Newborn Hearing Screening Service on 01382 660111 ext. 33657 and request an appointment or ask your Health Visitor to make an appointment.
