Children's Ward - Ward 29

The Children's Ward is based within the Children’s Hospital at Ninewells on level 4 of the hospital.
Our in-patient ward cares for children and young people who need to stay in hospital.
The ward has a total of 26 beds comprising of open bays, individual rooms and a high dependency unit. We welcome children of all ages from 0-16.
We have facilities for one parent or adult carer to stay with their child during admission.
If your child needs to stay in hospital we would encourage one parent or adult carer to stay with them. Each in-patient bed in the children's ward has a pull down single bed for a parent or carer to stay overnight with their child. We provide facilities to make your stay more comfortable including access to showering facilities, Wi-Fi and access to refreshments in our parents lounge.

What to Expect

You and your child will be met by the nurse looking after you and shown to a bed space. The nurse will complete the necessary admission paperwork. We understand not all parents/carers can stay with their child overnight, but we do ask that you stay until all the admission paperwork is completed, as it contains relevant information to help keep your child safe during their stay.

The Ward Round

The doctors carry out a ward round every morning. Your child will be reviewed by the medical team and a plan put in place for their ongoing care. We encourage you to be present with your child during the ward round which usually begins at 09.30am.

If your child is admitted in the evening or overnight they will be seen by the medical team on call and by the Consultant the following morning. If your child is under the care of a specialist doctor they may be reviewed by them personally or the ward team.
