What if I really struggle to talk in my appointment and say what I really want to say?

Appointment Preparation CAMHS
We know it can be really hard to talk about what’s happening for you. Sometimes the struggle can be about finding the words and sometimes, as a young person, you might feel that your views aren’t heard.

All staff at CAMHS are very experienced in working with young people and will do their best to help you talk about how your feeling and will seek your views about the things you want and don’t want to happen. If you think you might still find it difficult, have a look at our 'Preparing for a CAMHS appointment' guide below, for some helpful hints and tips.

You may also want to consider involving an advocacy worker. Advocacy workers are independent of CAMHS and it’s their job to represent your views about matters affecting you. They can spend time with you helping you to figure out what you want to say and can attend meetings with you and can help to make sure your views about any assessment and treatment are represented and considered. Details of local advocacy services that support young people can be found in the advocacy section of our webpage.
