- Severe depression symptoms with suicidal ideation
- Severe psychotic symptoms
- Significant risk of harm to self or others
- Anorexia with severe physical signs (e.g. BMI below 15) see Junior Marsipan, which can be found by accessing the Royal College of Psychiatrists website.
In Case of an Emergency

Referrals will be accepted from GP’s, Hospital Doctor and Community Paediatrician for Looked after Children (L.A.C) following a face to face assessment.
They must be discussed with the duty Psychiatrist or the Emergency Response Team and if accepted will be seen within 24 hours (Mon- Fri).

Requests for Urgent Assessment
Requests for urgent assessment will only be accepted from GP’s, Community Paediatricians or Hospital Doctors and will be seen within 7 days. The referrer needs to identify the clinical reasons for the urgency. These may include:
- Severe symptoms of depression with or without suicidal ideation
- Symptoms of anorexia with a BMI 18 or below and physical symptoms e.g. hypotension (see Junior Marsipan)
- Severe unexplained deterioration of emotional state an behaviour at home and school and which is not thought to be drugs alcohol or physical illness.
- Please ensure consent for the referral has been obtained from the CPY. If the CYP does not consent, discuss with their GP in the first instance.
