We have highlighted some useful courses for parents and carers below.
Understanding and Supporting Your Child
Join our 2 week online programme aimed at exploring neurodiversity, building your understanding of what this means for your child. We will explore preventative and in the moment strategies for supporting your child’s development and focus on building on your child’s strengths.
Once you have completed the Understanding and Supporting Your Child course you will be provided with the booking link to access our follow on courses:
- Understanding Sleep
- Understanding and Supporting Behaviour
- Understanding Big Emotions
- Executive Functions: Supporting Your Child's Focus and Organisation Skills

Decider Skills Course for Parents and Carers
Over 4 weeks (1 hour per week) Mental Health Education staff from CAMHS will teach parents the 12 life skills, based in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. These skills aim to support children and young people to learn to manage emotionally difficult situations in less damaging, more positive ways. The skills support distress tolerance, emotional regulation , mindfulness and interpersonal communication.

Anxiety Management Course for Parents and Carers
Over 4 weeks our Mental Health Education Officers will explore anxiety:
- What is it? Why do we have it?
- When do we know anxiety is becoming a problem?
- Anxiety Traps? What are they? How can we avoid them?
- Ways to cope.
Sessions will run for 4 weeks on MS Teams

Your Resilience for Parents and Carers
Join our 4-week online programme aimed at building your understanding of resilience. We will discuss how to support your teen with coping with stress and distress; managing friendships and social pressures; and how to talk with your teen about resilience and mental health.

Solihull Approach
Did you know that all online Solihull Courses are free for families in Scotland using code 'TARTAN'. These really are great courses with the added bonus that they can be done at your own pace and from the comfort of your own home.
We particularly like the following courses:

There's also a series of courses designed for teens, one of which helps teenagers to understand changes in their brain during adolescence, and other aimed at helping adolescents understand their emotions. Definitely something to share!

Silvercloud cCBT (Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Programmes for parents
New online support programmes to help support anxious children and teenagers are now available through NHS Tayside’s Computerised Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (cCBT) service.
There are two free virtual programmes available:
· Silvercloud - Supporting an Anxious Child for Parents, Teachers and Carers of children aged 4-11.
· Silvercloud - Supporting an Anxious Teen for parents, Teachers and Carers of children aged 12-18.
Each programme provides learning opportunities on a range of topics, such as problem solving, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills and anxiety management planning.
