Art at the YPU
At the YPU, we encourage young people to express themselves through creativity. Our Art Group provides a supportive space where young people can explore their artistic talents, which plays a valuable role in their recovery journey. Engaging in creative activities helps promote self-expression, emotional healing, and personal growth, making it an integral part of the care we provide.
Art Group runs every Tuesday from 10:30 to 12:00, both during school term and the holidays, with support from volunteers from the local art school.
Sometimes the group works together on larger projects - such as creating eco-friendly artworks for Eco Schools, designing posters for upcoming events, or making sets and props for the Christmas panto. At the same time, participants are supported and encouraged to follow their own interests, whether that’s colouring, knitting, card-making, scrapbooking, or any other art form that inspires them.

We have display frames outside the Art room which we can use to display Art work.
We work closely with local creative services for young people. For example, Art Angel helped our young people write the script and record a video all about the unit. This video, now featured on our webpage, has been warmly received by those preparing to join us, giving them a helpful insight into what to expect.
