YPU entrance reception
Coming in to hospital can be challenging. The following information is aimed at giving you an overview of what to expect when you arrive and during your stay.

When you arrive

When you arrive at hospital you will be greeted by our reception staff. We have a waiting area which has a coffee and tea machine with comfy seats. The reception staff will let the team know you have arrived and you will be shown around the unit.

Arriving out of hours

Sometimes young people arrive to the unit out of hours. This means outwith the hours of 9am-5pm. If you arrive out of hours there is an entrance next to reception which you can use to access the unit. There is a buzzer system on the door which staff will answer to let you in. Staff will then welcome you and show you around the unit.

Wellbeing Room

Coming to the YPU can be a very stressful time for young people and we felt it important to create a space where young people could take time out, recharge their batteries and allow the mind to calm.

Our wellbeing room has soft neutral colours, natural lighting, candles, comfy seats including bean bags and calming tranquil wall murals. We also have relaxing CD's and scents of lavender cut from our garden. All of which makes this a serene atmosphere where the young people can practice various relaxation/meditation techniques.

The beach meditation is a favourite of the young people and a picture of this is below, so you can also feel the cold water on your toes as you wander a tropical beach.
