The MoT project was initiated by NHS Education Scotland (NES) as a way of quantifying the undergraduate teaching activity within teaching boards. University NHS Integration Framework for Information (UNIFI) is the electronic system that holds both University of Dundee and NHS Tayside staff information and creates individual MoT profiles for each member of staff involved in teaching on the MBChB programme. It also holds data on staff from other boards that teach Dundee students.
The system pulls information from the Medical School’s timetables, assessment, mentoring, medical interviews and placement databases (where available) to quantify the teaching time for each staff member and creates an individual report, which can be exported/printed as evidence for appraisal and job planning purposes. Reports from UNIFI are used to complete the template submitted to NES which informs the calculation of the Additional Cost of Teaching (ACT) allocation.
Staff involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical students are responsible for inputting any teaching time not captured automatically by the system and liaising with the Teaching Lead for their area in order to ensure this data is as accurate as possible. Teaching Leads are responsible for overseeing the capturing of mot data in their area and liaising with the act officer and/or medical school quality manager about any concerns or queries with the data.
