Welcome

Welcome to the webpage for the Neonatal Unit at Ninewells Hospital. Here you will find information about our service, our team and other useful resources that will support you and your baby in your journey with us.

Neonatal Unit Philosophy of Care

"The Neonatal team will care for all babies and their families to the highest possible standard. Care which conforms to the recognised national standards will be delivered by a specialist multidisciplinary team in a safe and clean environment. We will support parents to confidently care for their baby and enable them to participate in shared decision making at all times. We recognise that all babies and their families are unique and as such will work with you to ensure we provide individually planned care. We will also take every opportunity to listen and learn from our families to ensure we continue to fulfil our mission statement."

Visiting the Unit

Take a virtual tour of our unit.
When you come to the unit or take our virtual tour, you will notice the wonderful artwork depicting local flora and fauna throughout. All artwork including lightboxes, original screen prints/fabric and wallpaper designs, animal and nursery signage is by local artist Freya Cumming.

Freya worked with parents and staff to realise our vision of bringing nature inside. The nurseries in the unit are named Tay, Earn and Esk, after the local rivers in our catchment area.
PARENTS are welcome at all times. We want you to care for your baby throughout your stay in the unit, as parents you are not visitors we see you as part of the team! The unit staff are here to help you.
Brothers and sisters of your baby can visit their sibling, please speak to your baby's nurse.
Two additional designated visitors may be permitted to visit, following a risk assessment. Please speak to your baby’s nurse.
