YPU entrance reception

Coming into Dudhope YPU

Coming into the Unit
We know that coming into the hospital can feel a bit overwhelming. When you arrive, our reception staff will greet you. You can relax in our waiting area, which has comfy seats and a coffee and tea machine. The reception team will let the staff know you’re here, and someone will show you around the unit.

This guide is here to help you know what to expect when you arrive. From meeting the team, to settling into your space, and learning about the daily routine we’ll walk you through each step. Our aim is to make sure you feel safe, supported, and involved in your care right from the start.

Arriving out of hours

Sometimes young people come to the unit outside of our usual hours (9am–5pm). If you arrive out of hours, you will come in through the entrance next to reception. There is a buzzer on the door press it and a member of staff will answer. Staff will then welcome you and show you around the unit.

Activities within YPU

At the young people's unit we run a variety of therapeutic groups. Groups will be part of your treatment at the YPU. Staff will speak to you about which ones would best meet your needs and how to best support you to attend.

The timetable is reviewed regularly. Some groups are also run in blocks, meaning they may not be on all of the time. More details on the groups can be found below.
