If you or the individual you are supporting is overweight, losing weight has many health benefits. Making small, simple changes to what and how much you are eating and drinking can really help you lose the pounds.  The NHS Tayside Adult Weight Management Service has information on understanding your weight which will allow you to determine whether you are overweight or obese and the implications this has on your health.

Training
We recommend if you are a care provider supporting an individual who is overweight or obese that the support staff attend our remote nutrition training.  Details of the course can be found here.

When should you refer?

Referrals for weight management will only be accepted if the individual has a BMI >35kg/m2 or BMI>30kg/m2 with other weight related health issues and the individual wants to lose weight.

Please note that not all referrals for weight management will receive an individual appointment.  Appropriate weight management information will, however, be provided for all referrals received.  For clients with 24 hour care, there is the expectation that the staff will attend the remote nutrition training delivered by the department which will enable carers to assist and support a client to lose weight.  We will offer a one -off appointment following this to provide additional support if required.  The link for this training can be found above.

Further information about making a referral can be found here.
