Rohallion Clinic is a forensic inpatient unit incorporating both Low Secure Services and Medium Secure Services based at Murray Royal Hospital, Perth.

The medium secure unit provides 32 male mental illness beds for the North of Scotland Group of Health Boards. It is hosted by NHS Tayside and covers a large geographical area including Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland.

The beds in the medium secure service are split between an 8 bed admission ward (Spey) and two 12 bed rehabilitation wards (Ythan and Vaara).

The low secure unit provides 35 male mental illness beds for NHS Tayside. The beds in the low secure service are split between a 13 bedded admission ward (Esk) and a rehabilitation ward Lyon (12 beds).

"Forensic Mental Health Services provide person-centred, safe and effective assessment; care and treatment; for persons with severe and disabling mental health disorders* who pose a risk of harm to others; and who have come to the attention of the criminal justice system (or whose behaviour poses a risk of such contact); in conditions of therapeutic safety and security in hospital (high, medium or low), or in the community and criminal justice custody."

*as defined in the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, whether or not they are, or may be managed under its provision.

The Rohallion Forensic Community Mental Health Team are based within Birnam Day Centre.

The patient activity and therapy centre — SCAPA provides the setting for both individualised and group activities for patients from both low and medium secure.
