Equality and Diversity

NHS Tayside is committed to equality and diversity in the provision and delivery of its services to patients, public and staff. This means that NHS Tayside as a public body organisation and provider of services has to ensure that these services are equitable, accessible, fair and consistent irrespective of gender, disability, race/ethnicity, religion/faith/belief, age and sexual orientation.

NHS Tayside also has a commitment to provide equality of opportunity which includes the elimination of unlawful discrimination, the promotion of opportunity between all people and others, the promotion of positive attitudes and behaviours towards all people. NHS Tayside aims for effective diversity management recognising, valuing and fully utilising the talents and skills of a diverse workforce.

NHS Tayside has published 3 equality duties in Race, Disability and Gender to help us improve the services we provide. Each of the duties has a 3 year action plan on how we propose to do this. The action plans will be reported on regularly and the duties will be reviewed 3 yearly. With establishment of a Single Equality Commission ( Commission for Equality and Human Rights ) in October 2007,  NHS Tayside will consider producing their next equality duty as a single duty to incorporate all the other stands of diversity and include the cross cutting themes of poverty, homelessness, mental health.

We will ensure that all our policies, procedures, strategies and functions and service design and redesign are impact assessed to eliminate any adverse impact on communities, groups or individuals

To enable us to do all of the above we will consult, engage and involve our public, patients, communities and staff, with the goals of achieving a commitment to shared values, unity without uniformity, and building open and honest relationships. We will ensure that all our staff and service users are fully aware of the commitment of NHS Tayside to provide equality of opportunity in all our services
